JCC&A and exhibit designer Peter Sollogub of Cambridge Seven Associates worked with museum staff, advisers, and community members to create an interpretive master plan for this new museum devoted to a sense of place. Located just south of Charlotte on a free-flowing stretch of the Catawba River, the Museum of Life & the Environment (working title) will offer visitors the chance to experience up close the dynamic relationship of humans and nature over time through enjoyment of authentic natural and cultural resources and activities called INGs (what visitors are do-ING). Based on environmental history ("history with the plants and animals left in") and framed by input from staff, audiences, and stakeholders, the plan defines the new museum's philosophy, themes, and preliminary concepts to serve as a guide for future programming and exhibition design.
