JCC&A is leading a team of science educators and play specialists to transform a hundred New York City schoolyards into science playgrounds as part of Mayor Bloomberg’s PlaNYC Schoolyards to Playgrounds city initiative. The new outdoor play spaces will incorporate science playground equipment, science learning graphics, native plants and gardens, and science signage to inspire the city’s school children toward scientific discovery and involve their families in exploring how the natural world works. Essential to this effort is the collaboration of the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, the NYC Department of Education, and the New York Hall of Science, to create clear curricular connections to ensure that the new playgrounds serve teachers and students and become integral to learning.
